Background

UiPath, a prominent player in the enterprise automation and AI space, recently announced the integration of their UiPath Business Automation Platform  with SAP’s Build Process Automation, as a part of their SAP Solution Extensions. The solution primarily aims to deliver end-to-end automation across major SAP and non-SAP environments, promoting enhanced productivity, and significantly reduced total cost of ownership. This would ideally lead to accelerated implementations with prebuilt solution accelerators, simultaneously enabling a functional governable approach due to the shifting of the custom code to the automation layer.

UiPath Business Automation Platform

The platform has propelled the streamlining of organizational operations and processes, through the infusion of its intelligent automation offering. Comprising of three core components and corresponding functionalities - Discover, Automate, and Operate - the platform enables businesses to drive innovation and fuel their digital transformation journeys.

  1. Discover: This phase involves identifying relevant automation opportunities, by thoroughly undertaking process mining and analytics. It essentially helps organizations to visualize the workflows in-depth, pinpoint inefficiencies if any, and prioritize handling those tasks which could benefit from automation.
  2. Automate: In this stage, organizations deploy the automation bots for automating the mundane and repetitive tasks. To put things in perspective, UiPath’s adaptable and user-friendly interface does promote both technical and non-technical users. Furthermore, through the creation of streamlined automated workflows, results in significant reduction in the operational costs, while also increasing the resultant accuracy.
  3. Operate: This component focuses exclusively on managing and optimizing the said automated processes in real-time. It involves activities like monitoring key performance metrics and maintaining stringent compliance norms, thereby ensuring that businesses can efficiently and quickly adapt to the relevant changing demands.

Together, all these components empower organisations to achieve thorough operational excellence, thereby fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

SAP Build Process Automation Solution

It is a transformative tool designed specifically to streamline key business processes within the SAP ecosystem framework. It enables organizations to automate repetitive and redundant tasks, along with optimizing workflows through an intuitive, low-code environment.

The said solution seamlessly integrates with SAP's existing software, thereby leveraging several advanced technologies including workflow automation. Users are enabled to undertake fast-tracked designing, implementation, and management of automated processes without any prior extensive coding expertise – effectively fostering a healthy collaboration between IT and business teams.

Some of the key features for the SAP Build Process Automation Solution would include process discovery which identifies appropriate automation opportunities, and pre-built templates for common place workflows which enable significantly accelerated deployment. Additionally, the solution's robust analytics capabilities provide streamlined and real-time insights into the process performance, enabling enhanced continuous improvement.

Ultimately, by adopting the SAP Build Process Automation, organizations can greatly enhance the existing efficiency, drastically reducing the operational costs, and driving innovation, ultimately creating a more agile and responsive overall business landscape.

Analysis

It should be noted that, the integration of UiPath into the SAP Solution Extensions offers enterprises with a robust solution aiding the automation of business processes at scale, ultimately driving operational efficiency and accelerating overall digital transformation. This collaboration seems poised to enable customers to unlock the true potential of enterprise automation by streamlining end-to-end operations, reducing costs, and deploying automation rapidly across the length and breadth of the organization.

This joint offering supports Several Key Areas and Functions including:

  • Optimizing Key Business Processes: SAP’s portfolio, which included iPaaS, RPA, and Process Mining, ensures undertaking of real-time optimization for aspects like agility and transparency, assisting enterprises to perform even better.
  • Uncomplicating the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Migration: It must be understood that this integration and the associated automation accelerates the transition to SAP S/4HANA Cloud. This is done through preparing, cleaning, and synchronizing the key data sets between systems, thus minimizing the overall associated risks, and effectively supporting a clean core strategy.
  • Enabling Sustained Innovation: Automation of industry-compliant processes (e.g. lead to cash, source to pay, recruit to retire, and such others) positively leads to the creation of a digital thread, which seamlessly connects multiple enterprise applications, key productivity tools, and majority legacy systems.

On the backdrop of this development, Daniel Dines, Founder and CEO of UiPath states, “The SOLEX partnership with SAP makes UiPath an integral part of the SAP solution stack. Our combined product is unique in the market. It makes it easy for customers to partner with SAP and UiPath for their enterprise automation and Al plans.” He further adds, “I want everyone who meets directly with customers to learn about SOLEX and understand how to work with SAP. This is important to our growth and the start of a new chapter for UiPath.”

According to Apoorva Dawalbhakta, Associate Director Research at the QKS Group, “Embedding UiPath's market driving automation capabilities into the ‘SAP Build Process Automation Solution’, would thus provide a unified platform for creating, executing, and monitoring automations effectively. It should be noted that, the SAP users could scale their automation efforts in this situation, while also maintaining strict compliance and trust. This would ultimately deliver genuine transformative business outcomes, and proportionately accelerate their automation journeys on priority.” He further adds, “Together, SAP and UiPath seem to be empowering enterprises to efficiently manage all the end-to-end processes, driving continuous innovation through that, and supporting key enterprise-wide automation strategies which remain critical in the aspect of ‘long-term business success.”
